As scientists, it is important to be able to focus on the details, but also to step back and see the bigger picture. This image was created while I was focusing the microscope on some mouse cells stained with fluorescent dyes. Before the cells were completely in focus, I noticed a beautiful pattern of light and color created by the mounting media just under the cover glass. It was an unexpected discovery and a reminder of how important it is to consider new perspectives.
