Product Image Cystic

Cystic

Jacob Swanson, Research Associate (Wong Laboratory), Department of Dermatology, University of Michigan Medical School

Skin cysts are unsightly and can be very painful. This is an image of a skin cyst in a mutant mouse. We are trying to understand how these cysts form and persist, so that one day we might find a way to selectively eliminate similar cysts in people. In this image, the green color marks the protein, loricrin, which is a marker of mature skin cells. Red is keratin 14, a marker of the stem cells of the skin. Cell nuclei are stained blue.
